The Spark: Part 1/5
Trigger warning: Love at first sight story ahead. Proceed with caution (or an indica gummy).
It was an ordinary shift at Abercrombie & Fitch in Crocker Park, the kind where the cologne fog hangs thick in the air, and my biggest dilemma was folding denim walls to perfection. And then, he walked in.
Tall. Dark. Devastatingly handsome. His energy hit me before his words ever could, like an electric current buzzing straight through my body. I turned to my sales associate, barely breathing, and blurted out, “Oh my god, I’m going to marry that man.” Not I want to date him. Not I hope he notices me. Nope. Straight to matrimony. Because, obviously, societal conditioning had done its job..why take time to get to know someone when you can just skip to the life-altering commitment instead?
Now, let’s pause here for a second. If you think I’m the type to throw around that kind of statement about every cute guy who strolled through the store, let me assure you, I was not. This was different. It wasn’t just his ridiculously good looks (though, trust me, those didn’t hurt). It was the way he carried himself, like someone I already knew. Like someone I’d met before in a different time, a different place. Maybe a past life? Maybe just fate showing off? Either way, my whole body reacted. Sweating. Heart racing. Giggles I couldn’t suppress. Complete brain malfunction.
The moment was so intense I had to call my parents immediately after clocking out. “I met the man I’m going to marry,” I announced, brimming with certainty. My dad, always the voice of reason, replied, “Usually people date before they get married, honey.” Cute. He was missing the point.
I had just met someone who rocked my world like no one ever had before.
And whether he knew it yet or not, our story had already begun.
